Thursday, September 29, 2005 In less than 24 hours, I'll be going to Bangkok.Funny, usually I'll be looking forward & be excited at my holiday trips but hardly this time. Dunno why. Maybe cuz I'm having PMS & I'm getting stressed-out at work. Just this morning, come in to office read my emails, already got a complaint to handle *sigh*. Why people like to complain & take things for granted? I can get so disillusioned with human beings, I think maybe it's better to work with animals. Haha. This time round go BKK, I hope will be a stress-free & fruitful one. Everytime I go BKK, either end up buying nothing useful, if not, buy a lot of "rubbish". Then come back to Singapore, wear / use the items a few times, then chuck one side. The bad habits of buying anything & everything since things are so cheap there. Ok, back to sucky- work. Till then, I'll be back. Sunday, September 25, 2005 Decided to do this quiz passed on by a fellow blogger before I head out (it's a lazy Sunday afternoon) . Now, my left leg dunno for what reason cannot walk properly cuz it's very pain. Like muscle pull or tendon torn. At 1st I thought maybe it's muscle cramp but cannot be, cuz the 1st time it happened was last week...then after 2 days, it sort of recovered. Then yesterday night, it happened again. So since this morning, I have been walking with a limp at work. My colleague told me, maybe it's pulled-hamstring. Though I've heard of it (alot of sports people, especially soccer players very prone to such injuries one), I dunno if it is it....since I don't even do rigorous sports. Maybe later go see company doctor (doubt GP can help much, better to go see "tieh-da") but anyway, just go & see what she has got to say. Hope it's nothing too serious....cuz I'm going Bangkok next weekend! How to shop when I can't even walk properly....aiyo. Tuesday, September 20, 2005 Even though my last post was only yesterday, I can't help it but must write today to vent off my "toolan-ness". Usually, I'm not in my best of moods in the mornings cuz of the morning rush, crowd, etc. And this morning is no exception. There are always a few groups of people that make me very "toolan". 1. The Statues Even when the train is crowded but still got space, they never move. They stand rooted to their spot. Then there are those who hold on tightly to the metal pole & don't want to move even when the train is not moving. These people are either make of stone (that's why too heavy to move) or too fragile (if they move or stop hanging on to the pole, their bones will shatter). Sometimes, these people make me so pissed, I feel like shouting "MOVE IT PEOPLE, move it!". 2. The "Ti-Siaos" Self-explanatory. These people pretend to close their eyes & sleep so that they don't have to give up their 'precious' seats to people who are more in need. I saw a pregnant woman standing at the far end from me this morning. Her tummy is so big, I think she's due anytime soon. But all these idiots sitting in front of her are the kings & queens of "ti-siaos". Nobody offered her a seat. Sometimes, these people make me so pissed, I feel like tapping them on the shoulders & ask "Are you pregnant, not feeling well or leg is injured". If they can answer me "No"....I will tell them "then can you please give up your seat to someone who's more in need i.e. this pregnant woman here?" 3. The "Hungry Ghosts" These people don't give others a chance to alight 1st before rushing into the train. They're like the ghosts released during the Hungry Ghosts month, rushing out to "earth" or to get reincarnated or what. Like this morning I got crushed & hit by this stupid woman's laptop bag. Walau! Can wait or not!! Not as if the train doors are closing. Sometimes I wonder where these people's pea-brains are located (maybe really in their backside). But maybe they don't even have a brain!! So angree......GRrrrr. Monday, September 19, 2005 Went to watch Quidam by Cirque du Soleil yesterday evening. It was an awesome / excellent / fantabulous performance. This is their 3rd show here in Singapore. 1st was Saltimbanco (which I caught quite some years back) & 2nd was Alegria (which I missed...haiz). The Grand ChapiteauAs compared to their previous 2 shows, Quidam has a darker edge to it. At times, I can feel its melancholy & at times, celebratory. Cirque du Soleil's shows never fails to amaze me with their combination of entertainment, artistry & acrobatic elements. The strength, coordination, agility, balance & body-control in their performances really take my breath away. At times, the performance were so intense & jaw dropping, most of us (the audience) went silent with concentration & then erupt with thunderous applause. One of my favourite segments was the comedy skit. This is a common feature in all their shows, whereby the performers will pick (I call it 'sabo') a few members of the audience to participate. I laughed so hard & loud that I was tearing (literally 'chio kar peng'...if I can roll on the floor & laughed, I would...haha). But really, so long never laughed until so happy liao. During the 30mins interval, I made a beeline to the toilet. Woah! The queue snaked like nobody business, but luckily it moved quite fast. And the toilet is not the kind you see in public events or in Sentosa, those individual portable toilets that are unisex, dirty, smelly & hot. This one still got divide into Male & Female containers. Each container consists of about 6 cubicles with sliding doors inside. And to my surprise & pleasure, it was very clean & not smelly at all. Got proper toilet seats with working flushing buttons & even have toilet paper provided! Impressed right! I can't help it but to take a photo of it...hehee. The toiletOnly grouse I have is that the souvenirs & food items sold there very EX. Wanted to buy a small tub of Ben & Jerry's ice-cream but don't know how much it cost, just know sure very expensive. So when a lady in front of me bought it & gave the girl $5 (I didn't see any change), I knew then it cost a 'blardy' $5! Decided not to buy it. Siao! I can go buy 3-4 sticks of Magnolia Magnum ice-cream with that amount. Anyway, after the show finished, I ended buying a Quidam mug at $19. Anyway, my ex-colleagues in M1 can get to watch FREE Quidam as part of the company's D&D since M1 is the presenting sponsor in Singapore. So good!! Why this kind of good lobang never happens to me when I was working there?! Duh. But still, with a world-class performance & a clean toilet, I felt my $120 was actually well spent. Tuesday, September 13, 2005 Had trouble keeping my eyes open at class today. Had to fiddle with my classmates' stationery to keep myself awake. I doubt toothpicks will work either.Dunno why but I've been feeling very sleepy of late (or have it always been the case), in the morning when I wake up for work, before, during & after lunch. Think it's going to get worse come next month, when I'll be having classes twice a week. But funny, when it comes to shopping, I'm not sleepy...haha! My colleagues said to me (in Chinese) "You asked for it one. Nothing to do go & find things to do. Go & take up part-time course & torture yourself". Even my boss also asked me why am I taking the course when I have so many qualifications already. Good question! Partly to upgrade myself & cuz I think that time my 'backside itchy' when I signed up for the course, since I've yet to find a new job then. Now like a bit regret cuz I could have saved up the $$ & go France visit my sister & shop more...hehee. Every week also have tests & revision to study for. Getting old, memory also not as good. Attention span also shorter cuz tired & sleepy. Last week, I received an invitation to a 'by-invites' only Heinekeen Green Room sessions party @ Zouk this Thursday. Also 'hand-itchy' lah, went to reply RSVP to get the invite....but now I think I'll skip that too. Come home after work, sleep early better. Wait the next morning, cannot wake up fresh for work, then become grouchy. Monday, September 12, 2005 Lately, there had been a lot of hoo-haa over a popular local blog (which incidentally, I have included in the "Blogs I Read" link). Some guy had written in to the Straits Times Forum to highlight his concernhttp://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/forum/story/0,5562,339700-1126303140,00.html Following that, there was an onslaught of verbal attacks in the comments of Talk Rock & Ephraim's blogs and also a reader who wrote in to Forum with regards to the piece http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/forum/story/0,5562,340303,00.html And then today, CNA reported that two bloggers were arrested for Sedition Act over racist remarks http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/singaporelocalnews/view/167812/1/.html Blogging is supposed to be a platform where one can write or share his/her views & opinions. Or so I thought. Freedom of expression? Freedom of Speech? Nah, not here (maybe only in the West). Local bloggers will still have to be mindful of what they write. No doubt, we have to be responsible for what we write....but I wonder if the arrest is necessary or perhaps, a warning should be given 1st? Anyway on the Forum topic, I probably can see where Ephraim is coming from. But really, is writing to the Forum necessary? Or should he just write in to LIME 1st & expressed his concerns? Anyhow, my viewpoint on all these- "making a mountain out of a molehill". And by the way, it was the 1st time I've heard of a Sedition Act. Thursday, September 08, 2005 Was reading today's Straits Time supplement- URBAN. By far, it featured the most interesting articles till date. One- about Let's Get Surgical. Two- about Booby Traps.Booby Traps featured 3 models from Jeffrey Chung models who have "D-cup" sized boobs & called themselves the "3D girls" ala a "F4 girls" from Taiwan, who have "F-cup" sized boobs. Pretty lame in fact...but then as what the saying goes "if you have it, flaunt it". [on a separate note: personally, i think jeffrey chung models are really CMI kind. previous company i worked for, engaged them to do a launch party fashion show & some can't even sashay properly. think the agency standard not very high. CMI = cannot make it]. Anyway, the article also talked about women who complaint about having big boobs. The backaches, sore shoulders, unwanted attention and even going for breast reduction surgery. Well, girls...when we have it too big, we want it to be smaller, when we have it small, we want to go for breast implants to make it bigger. But of course, there are some who are perfectly comfortable in their sizes. Still, I think all is done for the sake of men, to please them. Let's Get Surgical touched on women going under the knife to get the various procedures done, namely; Vaginoplasty, Labioplasty & Hymenplasty. Nothing new as I've read about these in women's magazines quite sometime back but it's pretty interesting to know that more local women are having it done. (For the uninitiated, the above surgeries are done on women's lower private parts). And most gave the reasons why they are doing the surgery, are to please their husbands or to improve their sex-life. While some opt to do it because they fear their men will leave them for younger chicks. So typical for women to "sacrifice" & go to such length just to keep their partners. But men (I'm not saying all men), they are hard to please. They may find it refreshing, but after awhile, I think, they will still like to look elsewhere... Imagine having the same main course all the time, they'll like to have other side dishes too. So I doubt a tightened vagina will keep them forever, hehee. It's a known fact that men will stray- whether it's physical or mental. Quoting from the article- "Dr Wu remembers a patient in her 50s who wanted to tighten her vagina because her husband found hers so loose he demanded anal sex instead" unquote. Wapiang eh! This is so demeaning to women! Try asking another guy to UP the husband ass & see how he feels. DUH! Haha. For me, I hope I won't have to resort to such means in the future. As for now, going for Brazilian wax is good enough. Monday, September 05, 2005 Had a peaceful Sunday. But it was a total opposite the day before.I had one of the worst Saturdays ever. It went pretty well in the day, coming to work half-day & going to my Grandma's place in the afternoon. At night, I joined a couple of my friends at this cafe which was celebrating its launch. It started off quite well, the music, booze & crowd. One of our friends got "hot & heavy" with this girl he just knew there. Apparently, both of them had a drop too many & were all over each other - dancing, hugging, etc. Anyway much later, I thought I saw the girl talking rather closely with another guy outside the cafe & casually told 2 other guy friends about it, that perhaps our friend is hitting on the wrong girl cuz she might have a boyfriend. And as what good friends or buddies would do, the guys went in to inform our dear friend, just in case trouble ensues. And what happened next was totally absurd. Our friend went mad at us for stopping him from having fun. And he started acting like a spoilt brat...he grabbed his stuff & stomped off to his office which was a few doors away from the cafe. We went after him into the office & right then & there, we were accused of & berated for spoiling & ruining his fun. And he told us that he love the girl & he's falling in love. Hello??!!! Who on earth fall in love with someone you've only met, and what's more in a drunken stupor! More like LUST at first sight. For someone who has never lost her temper in front of her friends, I don't know what came over me but I started yelling at him at the top of my voice & cried (I cry when I am very very angry or mad...God knows why) & stomped off after that, slamming the door after me. Thank goodness, the door didn't break. From then, the night of fun was ruined. We knew our friend was feeling stressed & didn't mean to flare up at us, but we couldn't understand why he did that to us. However, the day after, he apologized. Well, from this incident I've learnt a few things. 1) Kindness never pays 2) Booze is bad (not that I just got to know it, but just want to reaffirm the fact) 3) Anger makes one do unbelievable things 4) Women...sometimes we are the cause of problem (I can't deny it) but guys can't do without us, haha. And there's no such thing as love at first sight. Read yesterday's Sunday Times Lifestyle & there was an article on Love at First Sight with real life examples...but really, it's rare to hit the bull's eye of love with just one shot. In it I agree with the following statements: Quote- There is a fine line between feeling "attracted" and feeling "love". You can be attracted to a person's looks, the way he carries himself, the way he speaks and smiles. But you cannot 'love' him without knowing his personality, qualities, interests and aspirations - Unquote. So how can my dear friend fall out with us just cuz he thought he is falling in love with someone he had just met in a drunken state? Guys...I don't know what they're thinking sometimes. *sigh* Thursday, September 01, 2005 I am amazed by what people can do.They can complain about anything & everything. Before I worked in the Call Centre of a telco company, I thought working there would be pretty much straightforward & that not many people would call in daily. Since I'm a subscriber myself & I hardly call in, unless I am requesting for a value-added service or making an enquiry on something. But boy, was I wrong. People can call in for anything - ranging from enquiries to complain about bills, services, promotion, etc. On each given "hardworking" day, we can get up to 120 calls or so for a working day. And before I started working in a shopping mall management, I thought, well...it couldn't be that bad. People just come here to shop, eat, for businesses. Just like me. (FYI, I'm a well-behaved shopper, a good paymaster & a marketer / salesperson dream). Yet again, I was proven wrong. Shoppers can complain just about anything too - from cleanliness, to promotions & services, to the shops, etc. Some are genuine, some are pretty baseless & well, some just stupid. For example, we have people accusing us of being cheats when premiums (e.g. free box of mooncakes) are fully redeemed for a particular promotion running in the mall. In all the marketing collateral, Terms & Conditions are listed clearly it's whilst stocks last! If only these people read! I doubt they understand English anyway...haha. Some uncivilized people even threw the lucky draw coupons at the Officers. My poor service desks' gals. Besides complaining, some like to blame the mall management when 'shit' happens & demands for compensation. Well, I guess some people would never blame themselves when 'shit' happens. They would always like to find someone or something to blame on. Let me cite a classic case that happened just yesterday. A woman in her early 40's slip & fell at the office lobby while on her way to flag a cab for a meeting. And it happened that her pants were torn at the side. She then went to buy a new pair & demanded for us to reimburse her for the expenses she incurred. Well, the "Caution - Wet Floor" sign was displayed prominently & shoppers have their own responsibility to take care of themselves too. But instead of blaming themselves for their clumsiness, they look to someone to blame. Gosh....humans. Sometimes I just can't stand my own human race. |
