Thursday, March 29, 2007 I went to my 1st fitting at the bridal studio last Sun evening with Michael and 2 other friends whom I had asked to join me.I was really excited to see how the gowns my designer & I had conceptualized turned out to be. By the way, both my wedding & evening gowns are made-to-measure (MTM), rather than getting those off-the-rack. Guess cuz I'm so small-sized, getting off the rack one may requires quite a lot of alteration & what's more, the gowns may have been worn by others before already. At least with MTM, I can choose what I want. I guess my research online & from bridal magazines have kind of paid off. The gowns turn out lovely, especially my wedding gown!! I love it so much! And to think it's only the 1st fitting (without embellishments, etc). Even Mic was very happy with it too. We love the back of the gown which is pretty unique. Well, I think I have to give a little credit to him cuz he suggested the design on the back of the gown. And as for the evening gown, it looked simple at this moment but hopefully with the full works on it, it'd turn out as good as what I wanted to. The only thing is cuz it's a short gown, I have to buy a pair of suitable silver colored shoes to match it. The pair which I had recently bought was not very suitable, so I have to start searching for it all over again. It's so hard to find a nice silver colored shoes when you need it! Argh. I've always enjoyed my time at the bridal studio. Excellent service & a good designer. I know I am in safe hands....haha! Can't wait for my 2nd fitting in May. Monday, March 26, 2007 Collected the keys to our new home last Fri afternoon! Yippeee..Actually, the previous owners wanted to ask for another week's extension to clear the house but after our agent told them, they need to pay us $250 for a week's rental, they decided to move out their stuff by that Friday. hehehee Anyway, they left many of their potted plants & pots outside the flat. Guess we have no choice but to throw it away for them. Potted plants for sale anyone?? :P Then on Saturday, we went to select our floor & wall tiles for the house. We went to this place at Toh Guan where they have a HUGE selection of tiles on the 1st floor and showroom on the 2nd floor. Very nice. As usual, there'll be differences to the preference of the tiles I like and what Mic like. So we decided, I'll choose the tiles for the master bathroom, while he, the common bathroom. Kitchen floor tiles, both of us liked the same tiles...so no issue. As for the living room & foyer floor tiles, we were given those homogenous tiles to choose from (based on our contract quotation) based on $3.20 psf. But we liked one which is$3.40 psf...which means we need to top up abit. BUT Mic is now thinking of getting those super glossy homogenous tiles which are $4 psf...and that also means we need to top up quite a bit! I objected cuz it's not practical!! I have to be the devil's advocate cum financial controller when it comes to such things cuz Mic has a habit of indulge-spending. So right now, we are still deciding....& maybe reach a compromise. If he wants the expensive floor tiles, then he'd have to give up something expensive in the house (i.e glass door for the toilet). Anyhow, I think we're going on a quite fast-forward mode (or call us "kan-cheong"). We already placed orders for some of the furnitures - mattress, bedframe, dining table, coffee table, pole system for our walk-in wardrobe & carpet. That left us with sofa & dining chairs. Our reno should start in 1st week of April and it will be busy busy busy period for us. Still got many things to get (i.e. kitchen sink, hood & hob, electrical applicances) & do! Friday, March 09, 2007 Getting our own house and starting from scratch is no easy task.Almost all my weekends were spent scouring Singapore for furniture & electrical appliances deals, etc. Lots of research and info. gathering to do. It has almost reaches a point where I get so sick looking at furnitures and stuff. We even go to the different outlets of the same company just to make sure we didn't miss out on anything. We have to take into consideration of colors combination, design and price feature. Can't seem to find a perfect fit. Either sofa too long or price too high or table too short or price not nice....aiyo. Anyway, we finally got to see our perspective drawings of the proposed design of our house. Met up with our ID to select the colors of our walls, feature walls and kitchen. Spent 3.5hrs and till the end, nothing has been confirmed cuz Michael & I had quite a differing view on the colors & material used. Luckily, the ID's "thinking" and mine quite similar. Whereas for Mic, we though his selection is a bit off/weird. haha! It can be very frustrating too and we almost had a tiff over this. But I think it's quite common for couples to quarrel over either wedding preps or reno stuff. Thing is Mic can be quite fickle-minded....one day, he want this color, next the other. I almost want to give up liao! Anyhow, we sort of compromised & need to remain objective. Discussion is still on-going for the house colors selection. Hopefully, both of our ideas can be met halfway and it'll be a win-win situation. |
