Friday, February 23, 2007 Gong Xi Fai Cai!This year's Lunar New Year has been a bountiful one for me so far. Played mahjung & won.....hardly I win in mahjung games and it had been so long since I won quite a bit. It was also the first time I collected so much angpao $$ (almost double from what I used to get). All thanks to Michael's family & relatives. They are a pretty generous lot. But this will also be the 1st & last time cuz from next year, we have to give angpaos instead of receiving liao. Sianz man! And also cuz Michael's relatives are generous, this also means next time when we give angpaos, we also have to be. Doubly sianz! On another note, it has been officially announced that GST will be increased to 7% wef 1 July (triple sianz!). If all goes well, we should be starting our house reno in April & should be moving in by June. In time for the Great Singapore Sale and to buy house stuff before the GST increase. We have appointed the ID cum reno firm called The Interior Place to do up our house. After a few rounds of negotiation on the price, we have finally decided to go ahead to do up almost the whole house. Ironically, when we bought the house we didn't want to do much reno cuz the unit itself is quite a "move-in" condition but it's just not to our taste totally. And the more we discussed, we more ideas we have....so in the end from a tight budget we had given the ID, it now had expanded to abt 50% more than the original budget we had thought of. For the next year or so, we really have to be VERY VERY prudent liao man. Thursday, February 15, 2007 Celebrated my first Valentine's Day with Michael on 14th Feb 2007.It is also our first after our ROM. At first, I thought it's going to be just another day cuz on Tues, which is the day before, Michael had quite a bad running nose...so I presumed there'd only be a low-key celebration. Eat dinner, then go home. I was even complaining to him (teasingly of course) ...how come he used to be romantic & give me surprises during our "courting" days but now like so complacent, blahblahblah...haha. And cuz we somehow said before don't buy Vday gifts cuz we want to save $ for the wedding & house. And since he usually buys me gift on his overseas business trips, I thought ok lor...think Vday no gift also nervermind (but of course, deep down girls being girls like being surprised & pampered mah). On V-day itself...at about 10.30am, my recept called me & said there's something for me. I thought CNY goodies or some documents for me (but deep down, I had a feeling...don't tell me my dear ordered flowers for me issit???). And to my surprise, when I walked out to the recept, I saw a HUGE bouquet of flowers (12 stalks of gerberas with forget-me-not) & a 14" teddy bear! I was so touched I swear I almost had tears coming out man! My recept was smiling away, saying so nice my hubby....so envious, etc. It was really unexpected cuz Michael was quite nonchalant about the whole thing before V-day...almost to the point of being "bo-chup". I guess he still has that romantic bit in him, haha. But to think few days back I told him don't buy me flowers for V-day cuz it's expensive & so common. If want to buy flowers, buy for other special occasions! ![]() ![]() Anyhow, I bought him a Braun Buffel wallet and we had dinner at Millenia Walk. And I guess my hubby had the last laugh cuz he kept "suaning" me...."see, still dare to complain my lack of romanticism the day before, blahblahblah". Well, I think maybe because this is our 1st V-day...so abit special lor. Mic also said this year have flowers, next year don't have already ah cuz by then will be "lao fu lao qi" liao..... Still it was a memorable day for me :) Monday, February 12, 2007 Michael & I attended the Catholic Engaged Encounter (EE) over the weekend from Friday night to Sunday evening. It is a marriage preparatory programme meant for couples getting married in the Catholic Church. EE is also like a "retreat" (3 days 2 night) where couples focus on each other & be open & honest in their sharing sessions. There are no distractions like TV, newspaper, mobile phone, etc. And because it is a retreat, the EE was held at one "ulu" corner of Punggol. And it's real ULU. We felt as if we were reporting for BMT. So funny...first thing we reported to the "reception" and was assigned our name-tag, room number and a blanket. And then during breaks, those who smoke will stand near the carpark gate...looking at the gate...as if yearning to get out of the place. The scene was pretty hilarious. Anyhow, the programme was conducted by Father Ambrose Vaz...who is a very entertaining, lively and funny priest. During the 3 days, there were presentations by 2 real-life couples. After each presentation, all couples are given a set of questions to answer. Each of us will have our own notebook to write the answers. At times, the ladies will stay in the session room while the guys will go out to write our answers...and vice versa. And when the time is up, we will then go out and find our partner to share our answers. Surprisely, Michael & I wrote almost similar things on our book. But I guess this shouldn't come as a surprise to us since we have always enjoyed open communication with each other. That said, we also have our fair share arguments and quarrels during our relationship. But this EE had further affirm our commitment, love & values we shared and have for each other. We get to know each other even better & I hope whatever we had written in our books will be a testament & conviction for us to strengthen our relationship. Despite the "seriousness" of this weekend, we had fun during the EE , getting to know some other couples, gossiping, etc. Like when we were given a time limit to share our answers & for our dialogue session, me & Mic usually finishes ours in the shortest time...then we'll walk to the gate where Mic will take his ciggie break and we'll talk to another couple who also finish pretty fast mostly too. Then we looked at other couples discussing intently their answers....they looked so serious, that Mic & I joked...it's either we are not taking this seriously, or the other couples have serious problems/issues...hehee. But of course we are taking it seriously but just that maybe other couples need more time to sort out the issues. On the whole, except for the lack of sleep ....this was one of the most meaningful weekends we had and an experience we will never forget. |
