Thursday, September 01, 2005 I am amazed by what people can do.They can complain about anything & everything. Before I worked in the Call Centre of a telco company, I thought working there would be pretty much straightforward & that not many people would call in daily. Since I'm a subscriber myself & I hardly call in, unless I am requesting for a value-added service or making an enquiry on something. But boy, was I wrong. People can call in for anything - ranging from enquiries to complain about bills, services, promotion, etc. On each given "hardworking" day, we can get up to 120 calls or so for a working day. And before I started working in a shopping mall management, I thought, well...it couldn't be that bad. People just come here to shop, eat, for businesses. Just like me. (FYI, I'm a well-behaved shopper, a good paymaster & a marketer / salesperson dream). Yet again, I was proven wrong. Shoppers can complain just about anything too - from cleanliness, to promotions & services, to the shops, etc. Some are genuine, some are pretty baseless & well, some just stupid. For example, we have people accusing us of being cheats when premiums (e.g. free box of mooncakes) are fully redeemed for a particular promotion running in the mall. In all the marketing collateral, Terms & Conditions are listed clearly it's whilst stocks last! If only these people read! I doubt they understand English anyway...haha. Some uncivilized people even threw the lucky draw coupons at the Officers. My poor service desks' gals. Besides complaining, some like to blame the mall management when 'shit' happens & demands for compensation. Well, I guess some people would never blame themselves when 'shit' happens. They would always like to find someone or something to blame on. Let me cite a classic case that happened just yesterday. A woman in her early 40's slip & fell at the office lobby while on her way to flag a cab for a meeting. And it happened that her pants were torn at the side. She then went to buy a new pair & demanded for us to reimburse her for the expenses she incurred. Well, the "Caution - Wet Floor" sign was displayed prominently & shoppers have their own responsibility to take care of themselves too. But instead of blaming themselves for their clumsiness, they look to someone to blame. Gosh....humans. Sometimes I just can't stand my own human race. |
