Went to JB last Thursday for a friend's (ex-colleague) wedding solemnization as both of them are Malaysians & it's so hard for them to get a specific date here in Singapore at a short notice.

Anyway, I ended up becoming one of their wedding witnesses. Which means my name & signature is permanently inked in their wedding certificate. Somehow it seems weird but pretty much an honour & pleasure.

The process though is similar to the ones held in Singapore, the atmosphere & feel is rather different. But still, saying I Do & be legally bounded to your partner is a big step & commitment.

Wedding couple & friends

The wedding witnessess & the bride

It was rather an eventful day. We were driving a Singapore registered-car which was driven by the groom with my friend, the bride, sitting in the front passenger seat. As soon as we entered JB, both the driver & my friend released their seat belts. Then not too long after, I realised there was a Malay guy wearing a white-colored uniform riding his motorbike quite close to us & I thought "ok, this don't look good. Singapore car sure kenna aimed". And true enough, we were asked to stop by the roadside. Luckily, the groom is a Malaysian so he spoke fluent Malay (which I think the man was quite surprised) and both went to the side of the road & started "negotiating". So ended up, we paid him RM$20 for "kopi lui" & drove off.

After the ceremony, we wanted to drive off and realised there was a white piece of paper stuck to the windscreen. How "lucky" can we be?! Kenna summon for not putting parking coupons. Aiyo...who will put parking coupon when you're in a foreign land. Somemore, it's for less than 2 hours. Anyway, the groom said no need to pay as such fines are not recorded in the system.

Well, that is not the end. When we came back to Singapore, we were dropped off at Woodlands MRT opposite the taxi stand but didn't realised it was a double-yellow line. And when the rest of us wanted to cross the road to the station itself, we saw a TP at the opposite taxi stand looking at the car! The TP then drove quite close to the car & I thought "Oh no, not again...go JB kenna summon, come back Singapore, still want to kenna again? Cannot be so suay man."

Later that night, I asked my friend if they were stopped by the TP. Luckily, they did not as they realised they were followed by the TP and drove off quickly.

With such a "luck", I thought better go buy 4D on the car number and the date. But what a disappointment, both numbers did not come out in the 4D draw over the weekend. As what my mom would say "jiak liao liao".

And a valuable lesson......don't drive to Malaysia.
